Australian Lure Expo - Fernvale Qld 28/29th July

Postby Imax » Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:34 pm

Although there is a commercial component to the Lure Expo, the collections, displays, the swap meet, and tutorials are the main event, so the mods have Ok'd this post to the Main section of the forum.

Thought this may be of some interest to people on here. More information can be found at Australian Lure Expo. I have only just starting making my own lures so am looking forward to seeing how others do it and picking up some tips.

There are a bunch of lure junkies on the site, and anything that Fitzy runs has gotta be worth a look.

My only recommendation is get in quick before Sel sells his house to buy the whole bloody lot.

Dan agree it should be a good place to sniff out some guidance for the future, and will be driving out on the Saturday to see what can be learned from the experienced blokes doing practical demos there.

For any first time visitor to Fernvale, be sure to give your taste buds a treat and go to the bakery and buy a pie from a huge selection, looking at Google maps, when coming from Brisbane the bakery is on the main drag beyond the Expo turn off road.

A must when going to Wivenhoe to have a fish, or when visiting Lure Expos.

Saturday was a top day with choice to watch the Olympics opening on TV, go to Sexpo in Brisbane, but let common sense prevail and chose the Lure Expo in company with Gary [paint].

First stop was the Fernvale bakery for pie and coffee then joined the big turn out at the hall for the lure show.

Had a front row seat at 9.30 to watch and demo by Tom from Gidgee Lures who carved a lure with a Stanley knife and pleased to see my method of whittling was OK and very reassuring when you see a pro doing the same thing ..... that for me was my highlight of the trip.

Caught up with Jas [NICHO1] and had a yarn for for a while, and like many others put hand in the pocket to buy more lures, and I bought from Wal at Illusion Lures, also had a long wander around a crowded hall looking at all the other exhibitors.

The whole conception and planning was due to Fitzy and am sure numbers would have exceeded his wildest estimates, and he has kicked another goal like the Wivenhoe Kayak Fishing Convention in September, and as usual with his activities the proceeds benefited the stocking groups.

Will now add future lure expos to the must attend list each year, and after another pie we departed Fernvale for the return to GC in the early arvo.

Popped my head in today and had to keep hold of my kids hands. The hall was packed!!! Great turn out and good to see everyone supporting the expo. I actually didn't put my hand in my pocket for some folding stuff despite my 5 and 7yr old girls pointing out all the pink and purple lures that I should buy

Good to catch up with some of the people I saw and I hope it becomes an annual expo like the Wivenhoe convention. Fitzy really should be in event marketing or something like that!

I went out on the Saturday and got there just after the opening time of 9am. Gee it was busy in there first thing but was good to see also. I picked up a few parts needed to finish off some of the lures I have been working on and at a really good price. I also picked up a kit to make my own plastics which will be something different and should be a bit of fun.

To anyone that didn't go and is interested in any form of lure making I suggest you keep an eye out for the next one. It was well worth going too with heaps of info being shared around and a lot to be learnt.
